This book is okay, but there are better books. I bought this book along with the book by Charles Whitfield ("Boundaries and Relationships"). I started with this book, and thought it was good. Then I read the Whitfield, and OMG! The Whitfield has all the same content, but so much more, and so much more readable. I recommend you get the Whitfield book, and don't even bother with this book.
One of the best authors on this subject and the most clear and easy to understand and apply for me after looking at stores and libraries for something i could really enjoy reading, learn as much as possible about and apply it in my life. See my review on her other book Where to Draw the Line which i think is her best of all on this topic.
This book has been a Godsend to me. It really helped give me some clarity on what healthy boundaries are. It is a little slow getting started and almost all the case studies are women, but other than that it's a fantastic book.
Very eye opening. It has helped me determine what I am comfortable with and my interactions with others. It taught me how not to be a doormat.
Helpful explanations of the different types of boundaries and how they can affect all aspects of your life. Even though I don't agree with all of her ideas, it's still an accessible tool for identifying types of behaviours. I disagree with one of the other reviewers about it being too graphic. I think the author did a good job of describing just enough of a painful, complicated subject like sexual abuse or incest which affects millions of families. We need to be brave to openly discuss what boundaries look like in order to protect them. Even though the majority of the stories are told by women (there a few told by men), don't let this put you off. The general points about boundaries are not gender specific and I think male readers would gain understanding and find it interesting.
It actually "pushed my buttons" to read. I was caught off guard, expecting to pick up some new ideas or more clarity. But I found myself surprisingly emotional while reading it. For anyone that comes from a past with traumas, this book highlights the issues caused by going through experiences where our limits were not respected. It was unexpectedly heavy. But if you're interested in facing these issues, then I'd recommend this book.
I loved this book - I've been recommending it to everyone. The author is funny and interesting; I loved that she gave such detailed examples. I'm new to these "boundaries" things, and I am glad I chose this book to get me started. I found it empowering to read because it doesn't victim-blame, instead it fills me with a feeling of worthiness and responsibility for my own self.
